სფერი, or Spheri, is more than a wine—it’s a meeting point between ancient wisdom and contemporary vision. This handcrafted orange wine from Terrae Laboriae pays homage to the millennia-old Georgian tradition of Qvevri winemaking, while honoring the rich character of Campania’s native Falanghina grape.

A Grape, a Place, a Philosophy

Grown at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level in the hills of San Lorenzo Maggiore, in the province of Benevento, the Falanghina grapes that give life to Spheri come from a vineyard caressed by Mediterranean breezes and bathed in southern sun. The clay and limestone soils, typical of this part of Campania, lend the wine both structure and minerality—a perfect foundation for long skin contact and amphora aging.

Everything begins with hand-harvested grapes, treated with the utmost care and gently pressed. Fermentation starts spontaneously, thanks to indigenous yeasts, and takes place in 1,000-liter Georgian Qvevri—large, egg-shaped clay amphorae buried in the earth, as per ancient winemaking methods. No additives, no interventions, no shortcuts. Just grape, time, and clay.

The maceration on the skins lasts at least 4 weeks, giving the wine its deep amber hue, tannic grip, and vibrant texture. It remains in Qvevri for a full 12 months, slowly clarifying and evolving before being bottled unfiltered and unclarified—preserving its raw, living character.

A Wine That Speaks of Earth, Time, and Tradition

Spheri is a dry, structured, and high-acid wine, showing the unmistakable character of an orange wine made with intent and precision. On the nose, it opens with intense and layered aromas: orange peel, dried apricot, wildflower honey, citrus blossoms, and white flowers. On the palate, it offers firm tannins, refreshing acidity, and a long, mineral-laced finish.

This is not an everyday wine. Only 1,000 bottles are produced annually, making it a rare and meaningful expression of Campania’s land and spirit. It is rooted in ancient tradition, but daring in its identity—a wine that invites contemplation, conversation, and connection.

Ancient Clay, New Soul

Spheri is part of a growing movement that looks both backward and forward: reconnecting with the origins of wine while reinterpreting them through modern hands and terroir. In using Georgian Qvevri with Italian grapes, Terrae Laboriae bridges cultures, methods, and philosophies—proving that innovation can be ancient, and authenticity can still surprise.

Spheri is not just tasted—it’s experienced.
